Sharad Yadav declines NDA’s offer to contest

The National Democratic Alliance has finally now named senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh as its vice-presidential candidate, against UPA’s Hamid Ansari. This decision was taken after the NDA Convener and Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav turned down the offer saying that his candidature would hinder his role in “active politics”.

India-Pakistan Cricket revival

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, acceded to a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a short series. With this, cricket between India and Pakistan is all set for revival, the teams will play three one-day internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 matches. Though the series will take place subject to government clearance.

The ODIs have been alloted to Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata, while Ahmedabad and Bangalore will host the T20 matches.

The bilateral series had come to a halt after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Textile exhibition begins in the Capital today

A three-day textile exhibition , “Tex Trends India – 2012” opened at Pragati Maidan on Monday. The event was inaugrated by the Union Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Anand Sharma.

The exhibition will display a range of fabrics showcasing the strength of Indian textile industry. It is being attended by over 400 exhibitors from Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and other states. The exhibition aims to be the biggest platform in Asia for both exporters and buyers.
