Charlie Hunnam

Charles Matthew Hunnam known for portraying a rough-edged boy on a bold FX drama Sons of Anarchy named Jax Teller, Charlie Hunnam was trending in this Comic Con season held at San Diego.

The new trailer of his film with Guy Ritchie which is King Arthur : Legend of the Sword , was released in Comic Con this year. It shows the 36 year old actor pulling the holy sword Excalibur from the stone.

Other scenes depict action sequences, shirtless Charlie Hunnam and some investigations. The trailer clearly depicts that the filmmakers don’t want to give out much to maintain the suspense, but it is engulfing enough to captivate the audiences.

Now let’s dig in some history of the actor and who he really is.

Apart from being known for Sons of Anarchy in 2008-2014, he has portrayed characters like Nathan Maloney in Queer as Folk in 1999-2000 and Lloyd Haythe in Undeclared in 2001-02. He is also known for lead roles in Nicholas Nickleby in 2002, Green Street in 2005 and Pacific Rim in 2013.


Hunnam was born in England’s Newcastle upon Tyne, to father William Billy Hunnam and mother Jane Bell Hunnam. His father was a scrap metal merchant and a gangster. His parents were divorced when he was just two. He has graduated with the theory and history of film alongside performing arts.

When he was 17 he was discovered by a production manager of the Newcastle-based show Byker Grove, he was cast for the role of Jason in three episodes. His first major role came when he was 18 from Russell T Davies for the show Queer as Folk as a fifteen year old named Nathan Maloney. Following this he was offered a movie Whatever Happened to Harold Smith in 1999 for the role of Daz which made him to move to Los Angeles.

His career got its first recurring role as Gregor Ryder in Young Americans. After than he worked in many series and movies and started to develop an identity of his own. His entry on large screen was through Abandoned in 2002, Nicholas Nickleby in 2002, Cold Mountain in 2003 and Green Street in 2005. He starred as Jackson “Jax” Teller in Sons of Anarchy. The series is about a prominent bike club in California town. He has received many award nominations for his role.


In 2013 he starred in Pacific Rim by Guillermo del Toro’s scientific fiction. He was also brought in for the lead role of the movie adaptation Fifty Shades of Grey. However he had to withdraw later due to the schedule clashes with his TV series Sons of Anarchy.


Charlie has won the National Board of Review award in the category of Best Acting Ensemble for his character Nicholas Nickleby and a Huading Award in the category of Best Global Emerging actor for his role in Pacific Grim. He has been nominated eight times for his various works in television, though never won any of them, he sure did leave a positive impact on his viewers.


Lets hope his new movie provides all the accolades that he deserves and he is capable of emerging in a superstar in Hollywood. We already love his acting skills, he just needs to work harder to make the producers, viewers and critics understand his talent and appreciate it.
