  • Government, activists set for face-off: Only Five days left for Central Information System (CIS) imposed deadline for political parties to appoint public information officers required under the RTI Act, government and civil society are heading towards an ugly face-off.
  • Reconsideration regarding fuel withdrawal:  Sonam Tobgye (interim government chief of Bhutan) delivered a letter to foreign minister Salman Khurshid asking New Delhi for a re-look at the decision to withdraw subsidy on cooking gas and kerosene provided by India.
  • Gold coin on hold for 6 months: On the basis of improper move, top jewellery retailers and bullion traders across the country have decided to suspend sale of gold coins and bars for six months.
  • Turkish Airline, the national carrier of Turkey, has sought a five-fold increase in its current flying rights of about 4,000 seats a week to over 20,000, along with a nod to fly to more Indian cities.

  • MHA contemplating over change in anti-maoist operations:  The home ministry is thinking about a tactical change in anti-Maoist operations with greater emphasis on intensive intelligence gathering leading to setting up village-level database at police stations in affected districts.
  • EC, members welcomed SC judgment: The Election Commission and transparency activists have welcomed the Supreme Court judgment on disqualification of convicted MPs/MLAs, with a senior EC functionary saying the order had achieved in one stroke what the commission had been seeking from lawmakers for the last two decades.
  • Buddhist-Rohingya clashes: Conflicts arising between Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar’s Rakhine province may have been touted as the reason behind the attack on Bodhgaya’s Mahabodhi temple.
  • Quota in higher judiciary: In a reflection of the UPA government’s, it seems to be in agreement with Chief Justice of India-designate P Sathasivam on having reservation in the higher judiciary. “The judiciary must reflect upon the need for wider representation, as all segments should be represented.”
  • Google released an updated version of Maps app: According to the I/O 2013 developer conference, Google revealed an updated version of Maps app for Android.
  • Lenovo emerges top PC vendor: Lenovo shares rose as much as 2% on Thursday after major technology research firms ranked it as the world No. 1 in PC shipments in the Q2.
