The international Cricket Council (ICC) announced after its annual conference in London that India will host the Twenty20 World Cup in 2016 as well as the 50 over World Cup in 2023. And this opportunity is like a boom, it can also be termed as double bonanza for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as it would host the World Cup Twenty20 for the first time and fourth 50 overs World Cup. India was represented by the provisional chief Jagmohan Dalmia, former the president of ICC.
During the annual conference, ICC finalized its Global events from 2015 to 2023 and concluded that full members have to play a minimum of 16 Tests in the 4 year period to retain their test status. Apart from India that will host T20 2016 and World Cup 2023, there are list of the events which have been scheduled and finalized by the ICC in its conference held at London-
- ICC declared that inaugural event of the ICC Worlds Test Championship (former named as Champions Trophy) will be staged in 2017 and this event will be hosted by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in the month of June-July. Later the second edition, scheduled for 2021 will be held in India in the month of February-March.
- ICC confirmed that ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) will also host the 2019 World Cup.
- Cricket Australia (CA) will host the Twenty20 World Cup in 2020.
These are the events which have scheduled for the year 2015 to 2023 on the basis of conference analysis results. ICC Board supported the system of ensuring an optimum balance among three layouts of the game – especially Test Cricket. For more reliability, the ICC Board also agreed to change the estimate of the T20 rankings to cover the same period of four year like Test Cricket.
In the interim, the ICC also reviewed an assessment report by the ICC Venue Consultant on the venues for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014. According to this arrangement, ICC expressed its apprehension regarding the progress of construction and improvements to the playing convenience.
Board also decided to release a final report which is scheduled for August on the venues for the event. Also that Afghanistan was confirmed as the 37th Associate Member of the ICC and Romania get the right to become Affiliate member.
