Indra Nooyi invited by Obama
United States President Barack Obama has invited PepsiCo Chief Executive Officer Indra Nooyi for consultation. He has invited at least three indians from business, labour, civic community and Congress, for wider consultations on the current economic crisis. The discussions would be to find out the best ways to move the economy forward and implement a balanced approach for reducing deficit.
Other Indian-Americans who have been invited are Neera Tandon, president of the Centre for American Progress (an eminent U.S. think-tank based in Washington) and Deepak Bhargava from the Centre for Community Change.
Aung San Suu Kyi comes to India after 4 decades
Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader of Myanmar, arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday after a gap of around four decades. Ms. Suu Kyi is visiting India on the invitation of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, her visit is a part of New Delhi’s ongoing engagement with the democratic and multi-party polity in Nay Pyi Taw.
The pro-democracy leader will deliver the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture here today.
