France wins the multi-billion dollar deal for 126 Aircrafts needed by India
French fighter Rafale won over the Eurofighter Typhoon in a multi-billion dollar contract for the supply of 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft(MMRCA), which is India’s largest defence deal till date.
The deal is estimated to be worth $10.2 billion,of which 18 are required in fly-away condition and the rest will be made in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under the transfer of technology.
These 2 aircrafts were chosen in April last year, out of the four aircrafts:
– US Boeing (F/A18) -US
– Lockheed Martin (F16) – US
– Russian MiG-35
– Swedish Saab (Gripen)
Supreme Court sets a 3-month deadline for governments
The apex court on Tuesday set a three months deadline for governments to decide whether or not to grant sanction for prosecution under section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It was in response to a petition filed by the Janata Party President Subramaniam Swamy, who questioned the delay on the part of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the sanctioning authority, in granting sanction for prosecution of the former Telecom Minister A.Raja, in the 2G spectrum allocation case. The decision was given by a bench of justice V.K.Singhvi and A.K.Ganguly, keeping in view that Special Judge, CBI has already taken cognisance of the offences committed by Mr. A.Raja.
The Bangalore division of South Western Railways to launch “Blue-Fi” soon
Railways to launch Blue-Fi facility at Bangalore City, which is a combination of the blutooth applications and the wi-fi connectivity, facilitated by RailTel Corporation of India, the telecom arm of the Railway Ministry. This service will be free for customers, while the Railways will earn through the advertisements. This will be first such service(Blue-Fi) by the Indian Railways, though the wi-fi facility is already being provided by a private company at the Mysore railway station.
Kerala State Self Entrepreneur Development Mission to be inaugrated on Thursday
A first of its kind in India, an initiative to create 50,000 trained enterpreneurs in the state in next 5 years. This will be inaugrated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on thursday, this ambitious programme includes interest-free loan upto Rs.20 lakhs, for the chosen youngsters. Also, a managerial subsidy would be provided once they start with their units. So far, 15,000 applications have been received on educational criteria of plus two or above.
“One lakh direct employments and four lakh indirect ones within five years. That is our target,” the Finance Minister said.
