This all happened at the edge, in the penalties when Brazil just survived after an emotionally draining and the most spectacular round of 16 encounter against Chile. Everyone was pretty scared and the entire nation breathed a huge sigh of relief as it was Brazil finally. Brazil beat Chile 3-2 shootout at the Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Chile had a really strange memory though, as the Chilean defender Gonzalo Vara realized that he had left the gates open with his first own goal, which gave Brazil a first-half lead.
May be we can call it fate, that Brazil has got another chance to deny the fate of 1950 World Cup when it lost the World Cup to Uruguay in the finals. Brazil’s goalkeeper Julio Cesar, was congratulated by one and all after the penalty shoot.
The stadium – all 57,714 of them – was so buzzing with “Braaa-seal, Braaa-seal, Braaa-seal!!” that it might have acutely affected the Chileans. The opening goal too came in the same fashion for the bewildered Chileans. And the odds were stacked against Chile who have never won against Brazil in 12 games.
But, this time again the all geared up Brazilians did not want to leave any stone unturned in a bid to make it to the quarter finals of the World Cup 2014.
