The All India Tennis Association decides to send two Men’s doubles teams for Olympics.
Star player Leander Paes will be paired with Vishnu Vardahn while Mahesh Bhupati will partner Rohan Bopanna.
The AITA representative told the media on Wednesday that Olympics without Leander Paes was unthinkable. He also said that taking harsh decision against Mahesh and Rohan before Olympics is not in the best interest of the country.
He said that AITA thinks that the decision to pair Leander with a younger player is harsh but hopefully he will accept it in the interest of the nation.
The AITA also said that Leander Paes and Sania Mirza will pair in the mixed doubles if Sania gets a wild card in doubles.
The AITA said that they have taken the decision in consultation with external affairs minister SM Krishna.
